Wexford Pantomime’s roots stretch back to the early 1900′s when the Franciscan Friars brought the tradition of Pantomime to Wexford. The Friars held Pantomimes in conjunction with the best of local talent for many years in the Theatre Royal up until the foundation of the Opera Festival.

At this point the Pantomime Society moved to its new home in the Dun Mhuire Theatre where it was held each January until 2020. This outstanding society grew from strength to strength with the support of the Dun Mhuire.

Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the society had to put a hold on producing pantomimes in 2021 and 2022 due to several lockdowns and social distancing. They did however manage to produce an online pantomime in 2021 with the help of technology and Zoom calls.

The society came back with a bang in 2023 in their new home, the National Opera House, following the demolition of the Dun Mhuire Theatre. The pantomime has taken place in the National Opera House each January since.

Pantomime is a beautiful introduction for children to the theatre. It is a timeless form of entertainment that has people of all ages 3 to 83 rolling in the aisles. Pantomime is the idle start to the new year. It lifts the post Christmas blues and sends you into the new year smiling. The Wexford Pantomime Society is proud to carry this ageless tradition into the new millennium and looks forward to entertaining the people of Wexford for many years to come.

Wexford Pantomime Society is always open to new members of any age, in all areas of our production, and if you would like to get involved, watch this website or like us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram for news on upcoming productions.
