In January 2025, Wexford Pantomime Society brought audiences back to Neverland for the first time since 2012. Building on from Thomas O’Leary’s classic Panto, the script imagined what happened many years after Wendy, John and Michael had left their nursery adventure behind. Peter Pan and the Lost Boys were still locked in battle with the villainous Captain Hook and his band of pirates, but this time the story was told with some new twists, fresh characters, and plenty of Wexford humour.
The show introduced audiences to the ever-cheerful Mr. Smee, who struggled with being a “proper pirate,” and his larger-than-life mother, Nanny McSmee. Together with the return of the beautiful Indian Squaw Princess Tiger Lily, they guided the audience through an adventure full of song, dance and comedy. Meanwhile, Captain Hook, tired of being outwitted by Peter Pan, devised a new and dastardly plan. He enlisted the services of a professional Fairy Catcher, who succeeded in capturing Tinker Bell. Without her magic, Peter began to lose his powers and even his ability to fly.
The Lost Boys quickly realised that only Wendy could save Peter. However, bringing her back from London would not be easy: anyone who left Neverland would be forced to grow up. Their journey saw them return to London transformed into men, while Wendy herself was faced with the challenge of convincing Peter that true magic lives within imagination.
The production asked the question: could Wendy’s belief restore Peter’s powers, or would Captain Hook finally taste victory? With its blend of lively musical numbers, colourful costumes, comic performances and adventurous storytelling, Peter Pan Flies Again captured the hearts of Wexford audiences and added another memorable chapter to the long history of the Society.
